Back to Show List

The danceable swing style of bandleaders such as Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and composers Cole Porter and George & Ira Gershwin was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1945. Swing bands usually featured soloists who would improvise on the melody over the arrangement. After the Second World War the ‘big bands’ became vehicles for the ‘crooners’ such as Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.

For the older generation, the era of ‘Swing’ and the ‘Big Band Sound’ evokes happy memories of their youth as courting couples without a care in the world. Whilst the recent revival of this form of music, showcased successfully by Robbie Williams, has brought it into the hearts and ipods of a new generation and proved the enduring appeal of this sound. Hence, this show will be an evening of fabulous music, song and dance with something for everyone, whether it is a memory of their past or something new!
